When he was elected governor of New Jersey 4 years ago, Jon Corzine promised to bring his Goldman Sachs know-how to a state riddled with budget deficits and increasingly high taxes. Jump to 2009, and with New Jersey’s projected budget deficit for next year sitting at an estimated $8 billion, voters chose to go another way.
Since I started drawing cartoons for The Press of Atlantic City, I’ve done strips poking fun at Corzine’s inability to draw on his “vast” financial knowledge to fix the New Jersey’s budget woes. A play off the brilliant “Wizard of Id” comic strip, I drew Corzine as a tiny, ineffective leader unable to change the way Trenton does business.
With Corzine leaving office, the “Wizard of Trenton” strip at the top will be my final entry on his failed governorship (commenting on last-minute appointees Corzine is attempting to push through), but I thought I’d post a few “Wizard of Trenton” strips that I’ve done over the last couple of years. Enjoy.
