I like drawing Groundhog Day cartoons. It’s one of those odd little “holidays” that I find charming and inspiring. I’m surprised America’s candy and floral industry hasn’t turned it into an occasion to spend money we don’t have.
I don’t do many cartoons on foreign affairs. I mean, really, Hosni Mubarak is not going to look at this cartoon and be offended though it would be cool if he did. That would be my fondest wish, that Mubarak would look at this cartoon and say, “OK, that’s it. I’ve had enough. I’m fleeing to London with the rest of my family.”
I like to spend my efforts on national and local cartoons. I started drawing editorial cartoons back in the day because I was concerned about a local issue. I’m still concerned about what goes on at home, and the closer to home, the better.
