The refusal of the nut case Republicans to tax the wealthy at a higher rate is absurd. The support that the tea party and other self-hating conservative herds of sheep give the GOP is even MORE absurd. In essence, tea party Republicans think they can force the Democrats to do their bidding by volunteering to cut their own tea bag-sucking throats. That’s the part that doesn’t make sense.
When a person, or a group, doesn’t make sense to me, I look for four motivating factors; money, love, drugs, and prejudice. Why does the tea party back these Ryan-Bachmann-Palin-type Republicans? Can’t be money. They won’t be getting money from the government, in fact, they’ll be getting less. Any tax break they get will be more than offset by increases in other places. In fact, the older tea partiers would wind up on the streets in their retirement if they got their way.
Love? Maybe the tea baggers love those GOP folks they voted in to office, although it’s very difficult to truly love someone you don’t know. Drugs? Maybe the tea party is stoned and drunk. That’s very possible, given their demands, but I think it comes down to prejudice against “liberals” and “Democrats,” two words that have come to be code words for homosexuals, minorities, and any non-mainstream person who’s not on Rush Limbaugh’s Christmas card list.
Well, I have a radical idea in this age of hyper-partizanism. WE NEED BOTH––A TAX HIKE AND A BUDGET REDUCTION. Having yelled that, I mean to clarify. We need a tax hike on only the rich. The middle class is already stretched to the limit and the poor are worse off than they’ve ever been. Only the rich can afford to pay higher taxes, just as they can afford to pay higher prices for whatever they want, whenever they want it. And don’t be afraid that we’ll lose them. The rich will always be with us.
