The latest Gallup poll shows that conservatives are the dominant political ideology and have edged out moderates for the last three years. This confirms once again that America is a center-right country. Conservatives outnumber liberals by 2-1 and yet President Obama insists on governing as a liberal.
President Obama is in his own world, his ideas reinforced by leftist yes-men in his administration. He doesn’t even realize – or care – that his ideology represents only a miniscule 20 percent minority. By the way he talks, you’d think 80 percent of the country was liberal. In fact, during last year’s debt ceiling debate, President Obama astoundingly claimed that 80 percent of Americans want a tax increase to help bring down our nation’s debt! At the time, Mr. Obama wanted to raise the debt ceiling on a “clean vote” – i.e. without reforms or offsetting cuts. But he misread the mood of the country and was forced to back down. Now President Obama is back asking Congress for another $1.2 trillion to lift the debt ceiling to a new record of $16.4 trillion, up from $10.6 trillion when he took office.
President Obama is hopelessly out of touch with the rest of America. We saw him go against the public’s wishes when he rammed through the stimulus, bailouts, and Obamacare. The people were outraged by President Obama’s big government power grabs and rose in the form of the Tea Parties in protest. So unpopular was Obama’s agenda that even the liberal state of Massachusetts voted for Republican Senator Scott Brown, who ran pledging to be the 41st vote in the Senate to block Obamacare. This was followed by an historic defeat for Obama and the Democrats in the 2010 Congressional races. Still, the message did not sink in.
President Obama and liberals think that if only they were able to better articulate their positions, the American people would support them. They don’t realize that it is the positions themselves that Americans reject. The only way they can win over voters is with smoke and mirrors. President Obama tried this successfully during the campaign, disguising his true ideology in the vague language of “hope” and “change,” but once his true policies were put into action, the American people balked and rebelled.
With 35 percent of the electorate calling itself “moderate,” it is understandable that President Obama’s promises of moderation and unity were believed. But the warning signs were all there. The arrogance and distaste for the average American was on display from the very beginning when he ran for President and denounced “bitter clingers.” The writing was on the wall when Obama was rated the “Most Liberal Senator” by the National Journal in 2007.
At a time when our country yearned for hope and thought it was getting change, President Obama delivered corruption and strong-armed, Chicago-style politics. From the Solyndra scandal to Fast and Furious, Obama’s policies have been a disaster for our country. President Obama has had three years to show us what leftist government can do and what do we have to show for it? Record debt, a credit downgrade, and long-term unemployment.
With the House back in GOP hands, a clear path to retake the Senate, and a weakened Obama, it is time for the government to realign with the electorate. President Obama’s tone-deaf liberal agenda must be defeated and the country put back on a conservative course where it naturally belongs.
