Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made a bold and visionary choice in selecting House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan to join the GOP ticket. The Ryan pick firmly places the economy and our dire fiscal situation in the spotlight, the issue Americans care the most about and the one Team Obama is trying the hardest to avoid. The Romney-Ryan campaign has serious substantive solutions to get us back on solid footing economically, to the chagrin of an Obama-Biden campaign that can only run on ridiculous non-issues and smears like dogs, tax returns, and cancer deaths.
Paul Ryan will be relentless and he must be licking his chops at the prospect of picking apart Joe Biden in the VP debate this fall. Sheriff Joe has stepped in it so many times it’s amazing he’s still on the ticket. You can be sure that if Paul Ryan had made the same racially charged comments Biden made when he said the Republican Party is “going to put y’all back in chains,” that the entire Left and mainstream media would be calling for his head. The double standard that is being displayed is astonishing, but Ryan can handle it.
Rep. Paul Ryan is an excellent pick because he understands budgets and big ideas and doesn’t shrink away from tough votes or speaking truth to power. He dressed down President Obama at a forum on Obamacare and earlier this year there was a remarkable exchange between Rep. Ryan and Obama’s Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on the budget. After Ryan hammered him for having no plan to get the debt under control, Geithner admitted, “You are right to say we’re not coming before you today to say we have a definitive solution to that long term problem. What we do know is we don’t like yours.”
The Obama administration basically admitted that it didn’t care to even bother to feign a realistic attempt to craft a long term budget, all it cares about is tearing down its opponents. Accordingly, Obama’s budget was unanimously rejected in the Senate 99-0 and went down 414-0 in the House.
Where President Obama has stumbled, Rep. Paul Ryan has filled the leadership void by stepping up to propose real solutions for our long term economic problems. For the first time in generations, a clear plan has been produced to rein in the debt and reform entitlement spending.
Ryan’s deep commitment to America’s younger generations is unbreakable. He has dedicated himself to leaving them a freer, more secure, and more prosperous nation. He sees the backbreaking debt that is being piled onto our children. He knows that Medicare and Social Security as we know it will end for today’s youth if we stay on the current path. He has an eye for the future that goes beyond this election cycle and that vision is exactly what this country needs right now. In Washington, where courageous actions are sparse, Paul Ryan has chosen the tough path time and time again – something voters will recognize.
As we saw after the announcement, the energy is back in Mitt Romney’s campaign with the selection of Rep. Paul Ryan. In Wisconsin alone, over 10,000 people showed up to see Romney and Ryan give stirring speeches that whipped up the crowd. The conservative base is excited for November and the momentum is clearly on the side of the Romney-Ryan ticket right now. This enthusiasm shows that the American people are hungry for proven leadership and real solutions instead of the empty suit and the false promises of the man currently occupying the White House.
This election is about two philosophies and Americans will reject Obama’s failed liberal policies that have brought us over $15 trillion in debt and over 8 percent unemployment in favor of Romney and Ryan’s plans to fix our economy, bring down the debt, and solve our budget problems. The Romney-Ryan ticket brings a much needed competence and seriousness to the debate that Obama-Biden simply cannot match.
