“If you’re one of the more than 250 million Americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance.”
That is what President Barack Obama said on June 28, 2012 during a speech at the White House. It was a line that he repeated frequently on the campaign trail, delivered with great passion and his trademark smugness. We were assured repeatedly that our insurance policies would not be canceled because of the President’s healthcare overhaul.
But, like all liberal schemes, the quest toward utopia clashed with reality. And the results have been disastrous. This week NBC News, which is hardly a bastion of conservative journalism, pulled the curtain up off of Obamacare. They spoke to four sources deeply involved in implementing Obamacare, and were told “50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a ‘cancellation’ letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent.”
To make matters worse, the White House knew that “40 to 67 percent” of insurance customers will not be able to keep their policy, as that estimate was buried within Obamacare regulations. President Obama shamelessly and willfully lied to the American people.
Apparently, this is what “change” looks like.
NBC News went on to report that those Americans must buy new policies or be slapped with hefty fines. And while the Obama Administration is trying to distract from their deceptions by focusing on tax subsidies, it is undeniable that millions of Americans are already scheduled to be kicked off their insurance plans and into new programs which could cover less while costing more.
President Obama and his administration have violated the trust of the American people. There are truly desperate people in need of health coverage, and no other issue is more important than our health. Instead of implementing free-market improvements, Obama is centralizing control and making the cost of health care skyrocket. Through his directives, Obama is making it clear he not only believes you’re too stupid to know what type of insurance coverage you need, but you also were never supposed to figure out he wants to make this intensely personal, life-and-death decision for you.
If you have health insurance, and if you have not received a cancellation letter yet, the odds are now that you may receive one shortly. Those millions of letters are a vivid reminder of how elections really do have consequences. We must expose this administration and elect leaders in 2014 to stop this healthcare government takeover.
