This past weekend, we were honored to host the inaugural New Hampshire Freedom Summit which, as the New York Times put it, was “a gathering of several hundred put together by two of the most influential groups on the right, the Americans for Prosperity Foundation and Citizens United.” The event was a complete success, and I am so thankful for all of those who put in the hard work along with us to make it happen.
The line started forming at seven in the morning, outside of the venue, two hours ahead of the start of the Freedom Summit. Activists from all over the Granite State joined us to hear from our stellar conservative lineup, and you could feel the enthusiasm in the room from the moment the attendees started walking through the door. We kicked off the event with remarks from New Hampshire’s own Senator Kelly Ayotte, who gave an impassioned speech about the importance of the elections in November, and how it will shape the future of this nation. She spoke of the importance of saving our economy, how we must repeal and replace Obamacare, and how it is crucial to elect leaders who will adhere to the U.S. Constitution, enabling us to preserve our liberties.
After a rousing speech from Senator Ayotte, followed by a standing ovation for their Senator, the crowd settled in to hear from Senator Mike Lee of Utah. The crowd rose to their feet as he entered the room and began to deliver an eloquent speech about our core conservative principles. The audience was transfixed, as was I, as he delivered his remarks. His speech reminded me just how fortunate we as conservatives are to have him serving in the United States Senate.
Following Senator Mike Lee’s brilliant speech was a man who is the epitome of success found through the free market principles we hold so incredibly dear as conservatives, Donald Trump. Mr. Trump talked about Obamacare, foreign policy, immigration and the economy. Throughout his address to the attendees, he received a great deal of enthusiastic cheers and applause. I, for one, am so thankful that Mr. Trump not only joined us at this event, but that he has become a strong voice for free enterprise. At the conclusion of the standing ovation for Mr. Trump’s speech, some additional speeches, and an award ceremony, it was time for Speaker Newt Gingrich to take the stage.
During his speech, Speaker Newt Gingrich took on the incompetence of the Obama Administration specifically former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the troubled rollout of Obamacare. Speaker Gingrich spoke about how we have a unique opportunity to create a “new conversation” between the future and the past, and to allow the left to become “the defender of the past.” The crowd watched his speech with rapt attention, and once again rose to their feet at the conclusion. They weren’t seated for long as Senator Rand Paul took the stage next.
Senator Rand Paul delivered a high-energy speech about how we need to be bolder as a movement, fight for budgets that balance, and that it is imperative we fight for all of our freedoms, not just a select few. The packed house hung on his every word throughout the twenty minute address, and they flew out of their chairs at the conclusion to deliver another standing ovation for the Senator.
Kicking off the final leg of the New Hampshire Freedom Summit was Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Senator Cruz began his speech calling out the mainstream media and Democrats, stating that if they were correct that HHS Secretary resigned because Obamacare succeeded, that every other Democrat should follow her out of the Obama Administration. He vowed to “repeal every single word of Obamacare,” and we know from watching him in recent months, he will do everything it takes in order to fight for our rights. It was truly an honor to have this stalwart conservative at our event, and I very much enjoyed listening to his speech at this spectacular event.
Wrapping up the all-day Summit was a dear friend of mine, Governor Mike Huckabee. He spoke passionately about how our Founding Fathers were willing to put everything on the line for their freedoms, and how we must be willing to take risks and step out of our comfort zone in order to preserve the freedoms that we hold so dear. It was a brilliant speech, and a fantastic way to end such a great event in New Hampshire.
I want to personally thank everyone who joined us virtually and in person for the inaugural New Hampshire Freedom Summit. Stay tuned towww.nhfreedomsummit.com, where we have posted articles about the event and we will soon be posting videos of all the individual speeches. We are approaching an important moment in the history of our movement. The time is now for us to join together to fire Harry Reid and repeal Obamacare once and for all. Together we can make this happen, and together we can restore conservative principles to Washington, D.C.
