Subject: Ok.
Although these cartoons are cute. However, using them as an argument against Rush is somewhat less than effective. It amounts to argumentum ad hominem, a logical fallacy which has killed more liberal arguments, and perhaps liberals, than G. Gordon Liddy.
Cute. Nice try. But no cigar.
J.R.B.
Take away the ad hominem from Rush and his show would be half as long.

Home sick for the past two days with flu, listening to
NPR, Rush, etc. I thought, "There must be someone out there making
fun of that yutz". There you were. Made me feel better! Thanks.

Subject: CLINTON IS GOING DOWN!!!!!
Even though it is to late to impeach Clinton, he is going to go down in flames... After 8 years of this BS, we won't see another Democrat in the Oval Office for a long time. Gore will never have a chance at the White House. Thank God!!!!
Alg
Enjoyed your cartoons!!! Fantastic. You brightened up a rather rough week. Now take on the Media for their "nothing to do but sniff up President Clinton's personal life." I mean like ABC calls it ...A CRISIS IN WASHINGTON. What crisis??? Most presidents in the past, plus 99 % of the people in Congress have had or are having a "CRISIS" of their own. OH those sanctimonious reporters and anchor people are so bored they have nothing else to do!!! Wonder how many CRISIS' they have had????
Suggest you read "Darwin's Black Box" by Biochemist Michael J. Behe and see if you still feel that Darwin's theory is correct. I believe you will find that Darwin's theory is little more than a theory and does not explain the beginning of life and it's many forms.
The English biologists Mae-Wan and Peter Sanders, University
of Georgia geneticist, John McDonald, Australian evolutionary geneticist
George Miklos, Jerry Coyne of the Department of Ecology and Evolution at
the University of Chicago and University of California geneticist John Endler
all seriously question Darwin's theory and its ability to answer how life
was formed and species developed. Many Mathematicians agree as follows,
"There is a considerable gap in the neo-Darwinian theory of evolution
and we believe this gap to be of such a nature that it cannot be bridged
with the current conception of biology." Many modern biologists agree
with the following: What is to brought forward against Darwinism, may be
summed up as follows: That "natural selection" is incompetent
to account for the incipient stages of useful structures. That it does not
harmonize with the co-existence of closely similar structures of diverse
origin. That there are grounds for thinking that specific differences may
be developed suddenly instead of gradually. The the opinion that species
have definite though very different limits to their variability is still
tenable. That certain fossil transitional forms are absent, which might
have been expected to be present....That there are many remarkable phenomena
in organic forms upon which "Natural Selection" throws no light
whatever. Darwin's theory, my friend, is just that, a theory and it is being
shot down all over the place by modern day evolutionary biologists and bio-chemists.
Atheists and most liberals absolutely hate that. I know it is a bitter pill
to swallow, but, one day you will get over it!

Subject: Family Values=GOP Style
I understand that Rush's current wife (#3) lost custody
of her kids from HER 1st marriage. For Rush to blather on and on about "family
values", while he has none of the responsibilities, joy, or inconvenience
of children, is about as genuine as Jeffrey Dahmer preaching against violence.
Rush is just another hypocritical Conservative.

When you e-mailed me, you said you heard him call her a dog. Now its a HORSE? Jeez, it must be pathetic taking your "info" from dimwits like Molly (Big Dyke) Ivins and Joseph (Huh??) Spear. You LIEberals need to have better quality control for your BS.
I had been emailing when I post a response here --I haven't been too good about that in the last couple of weeks, sorry, folks.
You Suck. Dave
I haven't listened to Rush Limlbaugh since my latest employer disallowed radios in our common area, but I do appreciate good cartooning when I see it. I think Jack Davis would be proud at how, though your style is similar, it isn't a direct replication, as so many others are.
As to whether or not I agree with Rush, that's as irrelevant as whether or not I agree with your characterizations of him. I think most of the comments by your detractors forget your goal: to entertain. I believe that's what Rush's TRUE! intentions are as well...

Dear Sir:
You hate Rush because he makes fun of Clinton right? You
hate him because he makes fun of people. So why are you folowing his example
and making fun of people? What is the difference, who the person is who's
making the fun. I think you don't understand or believe in your own values.
I can say this because I personally don't think there's anything wrong whith
making fun of people. And I can totally relate to Rush's point of view on
Clinton. By the way, I'm not a spoiled consevative kid. And I'm not rich,
if that's what you were thinking.
Bye,
A friend
P.S. I think a picture of Clinton looking like a pig would be great. It would really match his personality.
You can see Clinton as a dog below.

Subject: Morning people are saints, late risers are evil
Just thought you should know that the survey you quoted for the "late risers are scum of the earth" comic had one tiny little flaw they neglected to mention in the press release (which has been quoted in many newspapers editorials)
The time of the survey was taken between 7 am and 8 am, thus people who are early risers showed better than those slothful, nasty, should-be-outlawed late risers who were called in two hours earlier just for performance tests.
Evidently, the guy who commissioned the survey was disgruntled by another survey (check out the one by OSHA) that showed late starters being more productive **THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DAY** than early risers, who peaked at the half way point and burned out quickly.
Now if you'll excuse me, since I am not a morning person, I'll go of and kill myself so I won't be such a drain on corporate america.
I recently found your 'Rush' page and I it is quite interesting, to say the least. As someone who is Liberal on some issues, Conservative on others, and middle of the road on most (in short, a typical American) I found some of the cartoons to be topical and some that, I felt, to be of questionable taste. I find political cartoons to be very effective because, by use of ridicule, they bring issues to the forefront and cause us to look at policies and people in a different light. For someone to attack the cartoonist (or journalist, author, member of the political opposition) instead of examining the issues that are spotlighted, seems to involve a narrow point of view and an inability to order real priorities. Keep questioning the policies and motivations of all politicians and political spokesman, because it causes us all to reexamine our own viewpoints. It obviously works, judging from other postings; you get people mad enough to react and to overcome their own apathy. Don't stop doing what, in my opinion, you do well.
I have listened to Rush many times (I did a remodeling job where the people I was working for were addicted to the show), and though I think he is mean spirited and accuses everyone he doesn't agree with of whining while he is whining about anything he doesn't like, he occassionally brings forth a valid point. As someone who was involved in getting the voting aged changed from 21 to 18 (mostly because I got pissed when I came back to 'the world', after 22 months in 'Nam, and realized that I still hadn't 'earned' the right to vote for or against the politicians that had the legal right to send me to war) I do find it disturbing that Mr. Limbaugh did not deem it important enough to register to vote until he was 35, especially as he chastises others for not voting. I am not surprised that he, like many other political celebrities (Clinton, Quayle, Gingrich come to mind) managed to avoid Viet Nam while so many of us, who did not have political or financial ways to protect ourselves, were sent to war (in a country we had barely heard about for reasons that have never been clearly explained), and like these others, he now makes excuses as to why he couldn't go. These are thing that I was first made aware of through your cartoons, so they've already done some good; thank you.
Keep up the good work.
Rush is a great American and are a jerk!
Hi Daryl,
I find your cartoons interesting, although unfortunately they aren't always so bright. It appears you were suckered in the UPS claim that, due to all the money they lost, they would need to lay off X workers, where X is a big number. Think about it. Losing money is bad - but making money is really good. And how will UPS make money in the future? The same way they always did, by delivering packages, a lot of packages. So many packages that they will need a lot of people to deliver them. Unless there is some reason for UPS to fear that they had permanently lost customers, there should be no incentive to shrink their business and lose a share of the future market.
The layoffs were a simple threat aimed at simple minds, or else an excuse for downsizing (can we? can we? can we?!!). Sorry you bit.
Ben Lee
Hi Ben,
At the time that cartoon ran, both UPS management and the union acknowledged that there would be significant layoffs --since that time it became clear that there were no layoffs at all. In a web archive the wisdom of hindsight is easy --I've decided not to edit out the past cartoons which are proven wrong by later events --the site is intended to be an archive of my work, not an edited history to show that Daryl is always right. Clearly, this one was wrong.
Thanks,
Daryl
It's true, my criticism looks pretty weak from the present. But I was complaining about the stupidity of UPS's claim from day one. I just hadn't discovered your web site yet. The irony which you used to make the joke was exactly what UPS was counting on to spread this idea - if it's ironic/funny enough, then people won't scrutinize it. Satirists play an important role in society - but don't let that role be "lackey"
Ben
PS I don't know what was up with the union at the time. Either a case of "simple minds" or else they were trying to play some PR tactic: "see how strong our ideals are!"

daryl, one question---do you have a cartoon page of President Clinton or do you not believe democrats are stupid also?
concerned
I draw a lot more Clinton than Rush, but nobody cares.
I only get mail when I skewer conservatives. Here's a Clinton cartoon ...

"It's just time-honored pursuit of a woman by a man."
For the first few months of the year, during the early stages of the Army sex scandal story, defenders everywhere sang the tune that this case was another example of political correctness gone awry. Rush Limbaugh said it best when he declared, "It's gotten to the point where just time-honored pursuit of a woman by a man can be considered sexual harassment." In April, Staff Sgt. Delmar G. Simpson was convicted of raping six women.
I just can't believe he said that! I don't listen to him at all and now this makes it official! He is just a MCP and a mean spirited jerk! I usually don't like name-calling, but he really deserves it!
Derek
These cartoons do not attact the substance and truth of what Rush talks about fifteen hours a week on "talk radio". They are a feeble attempt to discredit Rush. If you were to debate rush on substantive issues he would clean your clock. I am glad we have Rush. The truth he disseminates has already changed the outcomes of several elections and will change the outcomes of many elections in the future. He is nuking the liberal news media with half of his brain tied behind his back and is having fun at the same time. I love it.
If Rush were to try drawing cartoons I would clean his clock.
The so-called "ridicule" of Chelsea happened on the TV show when the order of slides was mixed-up in a bit on the "ins and outs" of the new Clinton Presidency. A picture of a dog was on screen accompanied by a comment about Chelsea. Rush clearly explained that this was a mistake and the person responsible for the mix-up was fired. Rush made this explanation several times within the year after it happened.
I also heard it on the radio a couple of times some years back --comparing Chelsea to a horse. It shows where Rush's values are at.
Rush has never had to scratch to support a family or scratch to send kids to college. He has been able to spend all his money on himself and has become spoiled and has no concept of chat life is all about.
Frank nelms, douglasville, ga/.
Daryl,
Yeah, I'm a fan. But I think your cartoons are great!
Kurt
Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat douchebag
By taking on Rush (and very poorly, I would add) I suspect your motives are like those of many no names (remember Vaughn Meador?) who seek fame by attaching themselves to celebrities. Trudeau this past week did a job on Rush-pointed and funny-original stuff. Your artwork needs some tightening and you really do need a caption writer/humorist.
Mick
Can't you find some other way to work out your personal hangups?
Hey, Pat Buchanan may not believe in evolution, but he's living proof that we're evolving back into apes!
Woo Hoo!
Subject: Chelsea Clinton
I heard Rush degrading Chelsea Clinton because of what he thought of her appearance. It takes a big man to take pot shots at a kid. That was the last time I listened to one of his shows.
Auto...
Your attempt to lampoon Rush falls far short of its goal due to the fact that the subject matter you select is not unique to Rush. While he, like many Americans, has his foibles and shortcomings, he has been successful in *listening* to mainstream thought and opinion. And since his thought and opinion mirror much of the mainstream, he naturally attracts a large audience. While your view points are not clear from the cartoons, (I disagree with some of the respondants who accuse you of being Liberal), you strongly imply that whatever Rush supports is to be ridiculed or excoriated. That is your failing and why you will never enjoy success with a majority of informed Americans, such as a George Shultz with his Peanuts strip. As far as I can tell, Libertarians have never struck a resonant chord with a majority of American voters. Why they haven't - can be debated, but I don't think one can debate the long term wisdom of the majority. It's why this country has survived so far.
Good Luck
Al
George Schultz? Doesn't he have a tattoo of Snoopy on his butt?
I like Rush. Their "Moving Pictures" album is really a classic. I say "Rock On!".
Seriously, I think liberals and conservative both play an important role in our society. Unfortunately it is difficult for people to balance liberal and conservative viewpoints on an individual society. Thank God we live in a country where we can speak our minds freely and balance each other's viewpoints (for the most part).
Everyone seems to be very sensitive about Rush's weight. I find that very interesting. I wonder why. I don't like the man myself, for reasons which go beyond his weight. However, I always find it interesting how many conservatives claim to live according to "Biblical principals" and yet condone violence and obesity as being in the natural order of things. My degree is in Theology (admittedly a relatively useless degree, but nonetheless interesting) and, to the best of my recollection, both violence and gluttony are condemened as sins. No real point here, I just find it interesting.
Have a nice day!
Robert
