State Senator Cathie Wright has introduced a bill, SB-664,
which will put an end to our tax problems by making California's art tax
rules match the rules in every other state. Her efforts on our behalf are
greatly appreciated! We will continue to update this site with art tax news,
as it develops and we may be adding other tax board members to the gallery.
If you share our view that reproduction rights to intellectual property
should not be taxed and regulated, we urge to you display our "don't
tax art" button with a link back to this site.
This portrait gallery was conceived to protest the taxes on reproduction
rights to artwork, which Brad
Sherman supported and which cause a hardship for California artists.
Sherman recently won
a seat in Congress --he recently left his seat on the tax board, but not
before taking a parting shot at cartoonists by casting a delayed, tie-breaking
vote against cartoonist Rhoda
Grossman. The BOE also recently decided to contest childrens book illustrator,
Heather Preston's
lawsuit.
