Kitchen Sink Bankruptcy
A story in Comics Buyer's Guide #1244 reported that the assets of Kitchen
Sink Press were purchased in a foreclosure sale. The new owners are Disappearing
Inc., a corporation owned by a group of investors led by television producer
Fred Seibert.
Denis Kitchen, KSP's founder, is the president, publisher
and CEO of the new company. His brother James is the vice president of production
and product development. Both are major stockholders in the new corporation.
The company will be headquartered at 69 Bridge St., Northampton,
Mass. They plan to rehire many of the editors, designers and other people
laid off earlier this year. It is good to see that KSP will remain a strong
presence in the marketplace, for what I hope will be a long time to come.
George of the Jungle
"George of the Jungle," the movie that attempted to emulate Jay
Ward's great animated series of the 1960s and failed miserably dropped out
of the top ten ranking on Sept. 22, but posted a gross of over $100 million.
Meaning good news for Disney Productions, but bad news
for anyone who loved the subtle humor of the Ward cartoons. Undoubtedly
meaning we can expect a dumb sequel as soon as the producers can think up
a new batch of immovable objects for George (portrayed by a likable Brenden
Fraser) to slam into and utter--"Oooh, that hurt!"
If you missed the movie the video will be released on December
2. This will give you a chance to see CAPSer Sergio Aragones' animated title
sequences and one of the best gags in the film, "Shep the dog,"
George's pet elephant.
