Englehart’s View by Bob Englehart
Never is political hypocrisy more on display than in the nomination process. The fact is, if a Republican President (say, a newly elected Mitt Romney) had chosen Chuck Hagel, the GOP-ers would sail him right through. It’s also true when the shoe is on the other foot, Democrats will destroy a Republican president’s nominee when it’s their turn to derail the proceedings. I can just hear what the Dems would say about Hagel’s “Jewish lobby” remark.
I don’t care one way or the other whether Hagel gets the nomination. I just like slamming those incompetent Washington congressmen in the party of “Hell No.” From what I can tell, the problem with Hagel is he’s an independent thinker. We independents get in a lot of trouble for not following the official line. It costs us time and money, but we’re stuck with our view of the world.
My favorite example of an independent thinker thrown out into the snow is Joe Lieberman, our former senator. He had few friends when he left the Democratic Party and went out on his own. He really only had one ally. The people of Connecticut.
