“This is an experiment. We’re trying to figure out what it’s going to mean to us, as editors and reporters and what it means to the home user. And we’re not in it to make money, we’re probably not going to lose a lot but we aren’t going to make much either.”
What I find fascinating is back in 1981, editors at a lot of major newspapers were on top of the whole internet thing from the beginning, and even in its infancy, could clearly see that it was going to be the wave of the future and have lasting repercussions on their business.
It seems as the internet began to take hold and grow, newsrooms made the decision to go from experimentation with this new media to ignoring the issue all together.
