Anyone who knows me has to deal with the fact I have an unabiding love for the Buffalo Bills. The team goes back to the 1960s, when they were formed as a charter member of the upstart American Football League.
During that time, Kevin Weil, a sports cartoonist and sales executive, drew program covers for the Bills that were popular among the fans. He died Saturday at home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. He was 79.
Weil drew the covers for Buffalo Bills games from 1960-1964 for home games in Buffalo’s rugged War Memorial Stadium, and back in 2009 his work found its way back into the spotlight during the 50th anniversary of the AFL at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Here are some of Weil’s covers.
