Hate is like panic. It's easy to be caught up in it. It's good to step back, take a deep breath and see if there's a better way to express opinions.

So, starting today, comments on this blog will be either published or rejected based on the usual requirements, but also with an eye to hatred. Anger, rage and frustration will have to be balanced with rational thought, respect, and yes, that includes me, although my editorial cartoons will be subject to interpretation. Anger, rage, frustration, fear, absurdity and hope for a change for the better are all a part of my cartoons and will remain.

This blog belongs to The Hartford Courant. I am the steward and the first line editor, but I'm not the ultimate editor. In keeping with The Courant's editorial desire to change the public political discourse, I will use that standard to have civil discussions in this space. You may join me, or not. Some commenters will find other blogs to be an eager publisher of their hatred, but it won't be published here.
