As The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) marches ever closer to Baghdad, President Obama hems and haws about what to do as Iraq burns. It is like a bad Hollywood sequel, we saw this play out in Syria last summer and the net effect is that the ISIS was able to train and equip while America slept.
Remember when Obama famously said “al Qaeda is on the run” and continually assured us that we are no longer at war? Well now Obama is insisting that “the world is less violent than ever.” How can this be accurate when extremists in Iraq are attempting to topple a sovereign nation?
At this point we can all see that Obama’s initial inaction in Iraq and his more recent decision to backtrack and send 275 troops to solely protect the US Embassy in Bagdahd, are simply a political means to an end. At this point in Obama’s presidency, he is more unpopular than ever, and is very much in need of a positive story. Take one was the prisoner swap for Bowe Bergdahl, and we all know how that ended up. Now it’s Obama again trying to keep an election “promise” which was to take all U.S. troops out of Iraq. It is abundantly clear that Obama is more than willing to risk American National Security in order to keep his naïve liberal base happy.
The danger to America cannot be understated. These bloodthirsty terrorists would set up an Islamic state – the caliphate Osama bin Laden dreamed of – right in the heart of the Middle East, undoing all the progress our soldiers fought and died to achieve in the War on Terror since September 11th.
Worse yet, Iran is stepping up to the plate and reportedly sending in paramilitary forces to fight ISIS militants. Why President Obama is willing to sit back and cede more power to the Iranian regime is a mystery. Right now, U.S. negotiators are haplessly trying to persuade the Iranians to give up their nuclear weapons program. If President Obama cedes this important sphere of influence – or even worse begs the Iranians for help – we can all kiss the possibility of a nuclear-free Iran goodbye.
The President announced that he had asked military leaders for options. Why is he not more prepared? Why is he not more concerned? Does the President not want to destroy this terrorist menace? Is President Obama afraid to take action? We have a large, organized, well-equipped, and well-funded army of terrorists quickly taking over Iraq while the President sits idly by.
Surely by now he’s familiar with the military options available to him. Sadly, it seems that President Obama simply doesn’t want to take action. It seems he is terrified that the victory lap he took in his first term has become meaningless and he doesn’t want to go “back to Iraq.” Remember this is the President who won the Nobel Peace Prize during his first year in office.
If the ISIS gains entry into Baghdad and Iraq falls into complete disarray President Obama will be to blame because of inaction. Unfortunately, what we saw in Syria last year and Iraq this year are all precursors to what will happen in Afghanistan next year. President Obama just does not get it. We are at war with radical Islam and our enemies have no timetables. The world is a dangerous place and it is getting worse thanks to President Obama’s inaction and failed policies.
