Cartoonist Mike Lynch posted this video on his blog today, and it's almost as fascinating watching Charles Shulz, the creator of Peanuts, drawing a comic strip as it is seeing him carpooling children to school.
I agree with Mike that Shultz's advice that a cartoonist has to professional enough to sit down and deliberately come up with ideas at will is certainly true.
However, knowing Schulz's personality and bouts with depression, this line struck a chord with me:
"I hate the thought that there might be someone who's really looking forward to reading the strip, and that I haven't really given them anything good that day."
It's something I can imagine Charlie Brown saying.
