Self-syndicated animated editorial cartoonist Mark Fiore is the winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.

In citing Fiore's cartoons, which appear on SFGate.com (the San Francisco Chronicle's Web site), Slate.com, CBSNews.com, Motherjones.com and NPR’s web site, the judges noted his "biting wit, extensive research and ability to distill complex issues set a high standard for an emerging form of commentary."

Other staff cartoonists have won the Pulitzer with a combination of both print and animated cartoons, but as as Alan Gardner notes on The Daily Cartoonist, Fiore is the first to win the Pulitzer with nothing more than his animated cartoons

Also nominated as finalists were Tony Auth of The Philadelphia Inquirer and 2010 Herblock Prize winner Matt Wuerker of Politico.
