Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi suggested that Nigeria should split along religious lines, into two nations to avoid further bloodshed between Muslims and Christians. It's unbelievable that a former head of the Africa Union, and a leader who claims to advocate and champion the cause of African integration and unity could utter such myopic suggestion.

His statement drove many Nigerians, Christians and Muslims to anger. The Nigerian Government reacted in disbelief as well.

I drew this cartoon for Cartooning for Peace (CFP), an Organization which aims to promote a better understanding and mutual respect between people of different faiths or cultures through the power of visual commentaries. Well known cartoonists from around the world have been involved in CFP.

CFP is based in France and was initiated by the famous French cartoonist Plantu, who specializes in political satire. I've met Plantu a couple of times in two different towns in France, Rouen and St-Just-Le-Martel. His cartoons appear regularly in Le Monde, a French national newspaper.

Easter commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's the most important Christian festival, and the one celebrated with the greatest joy. My cartoon depicts the Messiah who died for mankind, asking for the forgiveness of many who do not mean well for Nigerians or a united Nigeria.
